Flavio Breseghello
Director of the Global Wheat Program at CIMMYT

Flavio Breseghello currently serves as the Director of the Global Wheat Program at CIMMYT. He has more than 30 years of experience in plant breeding, cereal genetics and research management.
At Embrapa, he worked as rice breeder and germplasm curator. Later, he assumed senior leadership roles within the Brazilian research organization, first as Head of Research and Development and later as Director
General of Embrapa Rice and Beans.
Flavio holds a PhD in Plant Breeding and Genetics from Cornell University (USA), where he did pioneer work in wheat association analysis. He has been influential in experimental data management and estimation of genetic gains in breeding programs.
Currently, his work focuses on leading an international team dedicated to global food security through the development and sharing of high-performing wheat germplasm adapted to the most challenging environments in the Global South.
