Meet the speakers of our upcoming event

Gertrude Kambauwa is from Malawi and is working with the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Water Development (MoAIWD) in the Department of Land Resources Conservation (DLRC) as Director. She is a civil servant with vast work experience and expertise in environmental management, sustainable land and water management (through the implementation of climate smart interventions where Climate Smart Agriculture and integrated watershed and landscape management are the key good agriculture practices which also enhance resilience building) and in recent times in issues related to climate change promoting adaptation and resilience building; and special focus on soil health.

She is a Norman Borlaug Fellow having participated in the USDA/USAID led Enhancing Capacities for Low Emission Development Strategies (EC-LEDS) programme through a Scientific Exchange Programme with the University of Missouri in 2013. She has also participated in agriculture negotiations through the African Group of Negotiators (AGN) under the mentorship of the Agriculture and Gender Negotiators and Expert Support (AGNES) a think tank based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Currently involved in different platforms supporting the agenda of the Ministry and Department through national platforms of the Soil Health Consortium for Malawi (SoHCoM); National Conservation Agriculture Task Force (NCATF); Malawi Climate Smart Agriculture Alliance (MCSAA) as well as the Malawi Agroecological Hub; and as the alternate National focal point for the Global Climate Smart Agriculture Alliance in Malawi. She is also a CALA Alumni having participated in the inaugural cohort of the Centre for African Leaders in Agriculture (CALA) in 2021.

Her passion is in empowering less privileged land users by providing them with the needed knowledge and skills for them to produce enough for their livelihoods sustainably from the land which they have so that the future generations can also benefit in the same from it.
