Lieven Claessens is a Senior Scientist – Carbon, Soils & Sustainable Farming Systems, with the Nature and Climate Solutions team at Olam Agri. He brings over 20 years of experience leading Research for Development initiatives within the CGIAR network based in East Africa. His work has centered on spatial analysis and modeling to assess the sustainability of agricultural systems in the context of food security and climate change. Lieven’s research focuses on co-developing and implementing technologies and innovations that balance environmental sustainability with human development goals, aiming to build biodiverse, productive, resilient, and low-emission landscapes tailored to the needs of smallholder farmers across Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia. Now based in the Netherlands, Lieven recently joined Olam Agri to help businesses identify and scale climate- and nature-positive solutions that drive sustainable transformation across agricultural value chains.
