Marcelo Fernandes Guimarães

Planning Analyst at the Secretariat of Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation, and Cooperativism within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.

Marcelo Fernandes Guimarães holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Brasília (1984), pursued master’s-level studies in Agricultural Economics at Wye College, University of London (2000), and earned an M.Sc. in Agribusiness from the University of Brasília (2006).

He began his career in economic consulting and private banking (1984–1987), later working at the Brazilian National Food Supply Company – CONAB (1988–1992) and the Ministry of Planning’s Secretariat of International Affairs (1992–1997).

From 1997 to 2023, he served at the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock’s Secretariat of Agricultural Policy, holding roles such as Deputy Director of the Department of Agricultural Economics and Director of Risk Management. His work focused on rural credit, farm financing, crop insurance, sectoral planning, international agricultural affairs, and economic analysis. He represented Brazil in the G20 Agricultural Market Information System (AMIS) from 2012 to 2023, chairing the group in 2017.

Since 2024, he has been a Planning Analyst at the Secretariat of Innovation, Sustainable Development, Irrigation, and Cooperativism within the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock.
