MD Farhad Zamil

Executive Director, Sustainable Agriculture Foundation Bangladesh

Md Farhad Zamil is a Bangladeshi agriculturist and seasoned development professional with over two decades of experience working with international organizations and UN agencies across the broader development landscape of agriculture, food systems, climate action, and rural economic growth. He is the founding Executive Director of Sustainable Agriculture Foundation Bangladesh, the legacy organization of Syngenta Foundation for Sustainable Agriculture (SFSA), Switzerland. Previously, he served as Country Director of SFSA Bangladesh from 2011 until its transition in June 2024. His thought leadership has driven systemic changes in smallholder farming from pre-commercial to commercial, traditional to ‘tech savvy’ modern agriculture, inclusive and market-based that contributes to country’s agriculture and food sector combating climate change. One of his notable achievements is pioneering “Farmer’s Hub” agribusiness model, has been instrumental in transforming smallholder farming system across six countries in Asia and Africa. Mr. Zamil holds Master’s in both Agriculture and Business Administration. He was awarded an ‘Honorary Doctorate in Business Administration’ by Commonwealth University in 2020 and received ‘Food 2.0 – Outstanding Leadership Award’ in 2022 for his significant contribution to sustainable development. As a Cornell alumnus, he is passionate about promoting innovation and creativity to improve farmers’ livelihoods and drive agricultural progress in emerging economies.
