Michael Kwame Nkonu

Head of Portfolio, Agricultural Livelihoods

Michael Kwame Nkonu is Head of Portfolio, Agricultural Livelihoods with the IKEA Foundation where he leads the foundation’s work on food systems – food, land and forests. Previously, he worked as the Senior Program Officer with the Open Society Foundations (OSF) leading the organizations Food Systems and Climate adaptation and Finance. From 2015 to early 2019, Michael led IUCN – International Union for Conservation of Nature’s SUSTAIN-Africa program championing inclusive green growth, economic corridor development, and business mainstreaming of biodiversity. Michael is the founding Executive Director for Fairtrade Africa, an organization that has been leading and championing smallholder agriculture, trade and economic justice. Michael holds a B.Sc. in Agriculture Sciences from the University of Cape Coast, Ghana, M.Sc. in Agricultural Science, Food Security and Natural Resources Management from the University of Hohenheim, Germany, and Masters in Sustainability Leadership from the Cambridge University, United Kingdom.
