Xandru Cassar is an agricultural economist with experience spanning the public, private, and NGO sectors, specialising in agricultural insurance, smallholder livestock systems, and data-driven approaches. He currently serves as Chief Impact Officer at myUbuntu Insurance and Agricultural Markets and Data Officer within the Maltese Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Animal Rights. He has held roles at the EU Commission, with international NGOs, and served as a delegate at COP26 and COP28.
Xandru holds a First-Class Honours degree in Agricultural Economics (BSc Hons) from the University of Edinburgh and an MSc in Development Practice from Trinity College Dublin, where he received the Best Overall Prize. His MSc research focused on improving the effectiveness of livestock insurance subsidies, while his undergraduate dissertation on the role of social networks in technology adoption among smallholder dairy farmers in Kenya earned the Best Dissertation Prize and contributed to a recent peer-reviewed publication.
